Based on the principles of a milling machine, Miller takes its material of choice and precisely removes what isn't needed, being able to produce the same results each time. In this case, the material is light and the cutting tool being a variable aperture.

Playing with the idea of alternation occurring in weaving, Loomis utilizes this motion with its continuous perspective shift as the foreground elements blend or misalign with its background counterpart.

Pondering about the different stages a manufactured good undergoes before becoming its final product, A. Sembly demonstrates the concept of the material (light) passing through a variation of processes (lenses and glass planes) before a final product (image) is projected onto the screen.

Manipulating a generated energy source trapped within the confines of its cylinder, the steam engine is the basis of Stanley's depiction of excited particles accelerating inside an enclosed space. Employing the design of the zoetrope, this elongated design allows for a multitude of perspectives for one to view the device.
