‘Reconditioned’ (2021) is a series of sculptures created during a residency at the Camera Obscura Art Lab in Santa Monica, CA, at a time when COVID-19 restrictions were beginning to lift and the world was cautiously adjusting to what many called the “new normal.”
Developed through observation of the Santa Monica Pier, the work responds to shifts in public space, atmosphere, and regulation as this once-bustling site came back to life. Drawing on the pier’s visual motifs, cultural iconography, environmental rhythms, and renewed human presence, the sculptures evoke a sense of reawakening—capturing the optimism, tension, and altered behaviors of a community in transition.
This project was made possible thanks to the support of The Santa Monica Cultural Affairs. View video documentation here.
